My Thomas Nolan “Grand Finale” was telegraphed from page one book one.
And I knew he had to go out with a bang.
If you read the book, you know exactly what I mean.
Funny enough, I get to credit Jim McCoy with that.
He once noted in … I think it was the first review of Hell Spawn … that this series was obviously written by a New Yorker because I didn’t mention any tourist traps, like Central Park or the Empire State Building.
So I made a note:
“Final fight in Central Park and ends on the Empire State Building.”
Funny thing is, between Hell Spawn and Blue Saint, I hadn’t had a single occasion to mention either location.
Anyway, having the war in the middle of a massive hurricane came later. Because if you can’t have the battle on the edge of an active volcano, a massive lightning storm and gale force winds will just have to do.
Granted, getting from point A to point B is a bit of a pain, but when the lich has bone wings and the protagonist levitates, it’s a bit easier.
Besides, calling it the King Kong Memorial Building is a reference more people got, instead of the swordfight on top of the “Golden Chalice Studios” building in Lightbringer. (I even named the chapter "There can only be one." Oh well. Some references are more obscure than others.)
