Declan Finn is still alive, damn it.
I had considered, very briefly, doing a post on current events…
But do you really want to hear my opinion on Ukraine? The Left? I write to get away from current events … and sometimes, it ends up in my books anyway.
I mean, I genuinely don’t care about Ukraine. No. Really. I don’t. They want to fight, and Europe is willing to pay the tab for our arms deal? Fine, let them fight to the last Ukrainian, and we can play war profiteer. A lot of it is stolen Polish land anyway. (Look up the “before” and “after” on Poland’s borders after World War Two. Somehow, Poland moved West.) I’m at the point of wondering if we can’t give Poland back their land, and then we nuke everything East of Poland, maybe up to Beijing.
I’m not sure if I’m an isolationist, but everything I know about history tells me we should let Europe clean up its own mess for once.
Seriously, if the US had let Germany win “the Great War,” we probably wouldn’t have had a great deal of our current issues. Germany probably would have owned a good chunk of Russia, Alsace–Lorraine, and I’m not sure if Germany even wanted to keep Belgium.
The Soviet Union wouldn’t have had half as much of Eastern Europe as it took over, so they’d have had fewer people to kill.
Heck, if the United States hadn’t given the Soviet Union an entire industry during World War II, would they have even lasted until 1990? Could they have slaughtered so many?
Hell, post-Great War, the United States gave Germany money … so they could pay European Allied reparations … so the European Allies could pay us back… and Germany eventually paid us back with devalued currency … a money laundering scheme that basically kicked off the Great Depression.
So, looking at it as a historian … screw Eastern Europe. Nothing good has come out of there since Franz Ferdinand was killed. (If you don’t know who Franz Ferdinand is, look it up. It’s a long story.)
Ugh. And I’ve burned an entire blog post on current events. Bah. Humbug.
I wouldn't say *nothing* good's come out of Eastern Europe since the death of Franz Ferdinand: Poland's part of "Eastern Europe" too, isn't it? And they not only were among the first to stand back up against the Commies in that part of the world, but are taking a stand against the EU-sponsored (pronounced Man-day-ted) "decolonialisation" of Europe by Islamists.
("Decolonialism" is the new "anti-racism," serves the same ends, and is just as honestly named and marketed.)
And, Karol Wojtyła wasn't exactly a Frenchman, either.
