I had fun writing this one. In part because it became more of an ensemble cast. Tommy doing his thing with his “new partner,” and having a Texas Ranger tag along for the ride.
This one started a terrorist training camp in America (remember that one? It was bulldozed five minutes after arrests were made?) which turned into a supernatural smackdown. Which turned into a trip around the planet.
Yeah, this one was weird. It almost felt like a boss battle, leveling up each time. First take out one level of the operation. Then another. Keep going forward.
At the same time, I had Jeremy and Lena also plowing their way through supernatural terrorists.
Jeremy turned into one of my usual characters: vengeance incarnate. He's got a little PTSD by being held at knifepoint by a possessed serial killer, and being kidnaped by a cult. But he deals with it by taking it out on people who have it coming.
As he put it, “My father's Captain America. I'm more like the Shadow.”
And an entire five people even got that reference, I’m sure.
This was the one I wrote before I left for Italy, so I recall less of it, frankly. I needed to rid the world of Bergolio. But After they fought each other to a draw in book 7, I figured that Bergolio needed better toys before taking on Nolan and his backup in this one. Part of that is because Nolan had called in an artillery strike on the position.
But yeah, I allowed myself to have fun with this. Even IBM (a chapter title of "Be Evil) buildings that came to life, evil CPS workers ... yes, yes, I'm being redundant. But it was nice to get Tommy other places.
