They *shouldn't* be putting Emma and Cyclops together here. That was an early 2000s relationship meant to derail Scott and Jean's marriage (again). Given they are "going back to basics" and making the X-Men teens in their own MCU movie (as opposed to the adult versions appearing in *Doomsday*), we *shouldn't* see Emma as anything other than a dominatrix for the Hellfire Club's Inner Circle. Which would mean the ick was part of the point: she's best as a villainess trying to seduce and destroy men, making Scott a viable target no matter how young he is compared to her.
I will not be holding my breath that they will do this, mind you, but if we are very, very lucky that is what we will get. Adam Driver as Mr. Sinister.... :pinches bridge of nose: Dang it, why can't that man land a part I actually want to *watch*? Sinister is scary as crud. The "nuke it from orbit, it's the only way to be sure" type. Darn it, they couldn't cast him as - I don't know, maybe Magneto? I'd watch him as Magneto. GAH.
Channing Tatum as Gambit is showing up in *Doomsday.* A version of Gambit appearing with the teen X-Men in their own movie depends on if Marvel is FINALLY going to put the Southern Belle and Ragin' Cajun together on the silver screen. I won't hold my breath for them to do that, either. I turned in my X-Fan card somewhere in the mid-2000s based on what they were doing in the comics and haven't really looked back past the occasional "I need this for research" or clicking on the headlines when something "new" broke through the noise.
Admittedly, if Rogue steals Carol's powers here, I *might* be convinced to look up that hypothetical clip....
Huh. I remember Jean Grey being dead (again) at the time Emma was banging Scott, but I didn't see the start of their relationship.
I do recommend Driver in 65.
As I said, I'm not the biggest X-fan. I liked the cartoon in the 90s, and have concluded they need to stick to fighting aliens and Apocalypse... also, that Nightcrawler should be the lead character.
For Rogue ... Well, I will finally want to see Brie Larson in a film. Heh heh heh.
iirc, Scott and Emma were having a... er "meeting of the minds" if you know what I mean (ie, the affair was in a mental landscape created by Emma)
Man, Scott really has a weakness for psychic women. Jean, Madelyne, Jean again, Betsy, Jean AGAIN, Emma...is he back with Jean for a fourth time yet?
Also, a bit of nerd trivia: Rogue is canonically 5'8". So, taller than average for a woman, certainly taller than the actress they cast for her. But not six feet.
Scott was married to Jean at the time Emma decided to give him therapy in psychic space. Jean found her and Scott engaged in Emma's idea of sex therapy and proceeded to beat Emma into the pavement in Scott's head (as opposed to the first time she physically and telepathically beat Emma nearly to death for threatening Storm). It was after this that Jean died again and Scott and Emma became a thing.
Yes, I still want Emma to have her butt handed to her. Plastic surgery and all (she has the "best body money can buy," apparently). Because around this time she also decided that X-23 was too dangerous to have studying with the other X-teens, so she made X-23 relive the moment she berserked due to a trigger scent and killed her own mother. Instead of berserking, X-23 fell to her knees crying.
You may have guessed that I *really* do not like the White Queen and would like to see someone *deal with* her. I would even pay good money for it. Given how much Emma is loved by the writers, I am not holding my breath.
65 - agh, I meant to watch that. Never got around to it. Excuse to go look at it now, though. Nightcrawler as the main character for an X-team would be interesting.
IKR? "I am the strongest superhero in the Marvel - erk!" "Yeah, 'bout that, sugah..."
You hate Emma for that. I hate the X-idiots for being a rotating orgy. At this point, everyone seems to have banged everyone else by now. Apparently, Nightcrawler and Storm were even in a sexual relationship at one point? My head hurts.
I have a particular hatred of Emma for that, yes. But the constant orgies, who is sleeping with whom, and "We're VictimsTM so everything we do is Justified even if it isn't heroic" was why I retired my X-Fan card. I like what they were, not what they are. I miss my heroes.
For a brief time, I liked the idea of Emma joining the X-Men, mainly because I'm a sucker for a good redemption arc. However, she never seemed to quite achieve it.
Closest she ever came to a real redemption was the Japanese anime for the X-Men featuring Armor and the single season animated *Wolverine and the X-Men.* That one had a boatload of problems but redeeming Emma really wasn't one of them.
They went out of their way to stick Rogue and Gambit back together for '98 and it's one of the few superhero things that really will get ladies to buy tickets so...maybe.
I don't know why I act like there's hope, even if they go there, they're going to write it like trash. Is there a single writer they hire that knows how to do a fun romance arc?
Well, Marsden Cyclops and Tatum Gambit are big pieces of the Doomsday marketing and we know Marsden is getting replaced, so I think Tatum Gambit is not making it out. I bet they reveal the casting for him, Xavier, and more after Doomsday to build excitement. Rumor about the plot being a multiverse killing spree back this up.
If I were the Mouse, I'd cast one of the actors from Off-Campus (girly romance trash show) as Gambit. Right age, right audience appeal. But if I were the Mouse, I wouldn't have had the Jedi Academy slaughtered off-screen so I could milk that concept for cash for decades, so what do I know.
The only character I want axed in the MCU, preferably by Natasha Romanoff, is blue and she enjoys hurting people - including her own children. Figures Marvel would make her a heroine and an X-Man. Did you see the suit they gave her? For Pete's sake, how hard is it to put Mystique in a sheer white dress with a skull belt?!
I don't get why they won't just let Mystique be a villain, she's a great villain. Ruthless, clever, profoundly hateable.
No costuming in Hollywood makes any sense anymore. I've been rewatching Babylon 5 and the costuming for entirely new cultures for one-off episodes has more care and thought put into it than anything these days. I suppose all the good costumers these days find more money and less hassle in cosplay.
For someone who doesn’t know any of these actors’ respective bodies of work—besides Driver—this blog helped me learn more about them and gave me some content to check out in the future. I recently wrote about the characters announced at D23. Check it out if you have a minute or two. https://mattdesimone9.substack.com/p/rebuilding-the-x-men-abb?r=4hdc1g&utm_medium=ios

Last reports suggested it was Scott/Jean/Wolverine. Emma might move in and out of that circle. Dunno for sure.
And THIS is why I haven't followed the X-Men in almost 20 years...
Well that and the "Magneto was right all along" philosophy they seemed to have adopted.
Ditto.

Yeah. It hurts to hope. But part of us wants to hope anyway....
