Not having seen Bruce Willis' version of "Death Wish", I can't comment.

But I did see Charles Bronson's "Death Wish". I should add that I always watch movies with my husband, Bill, so really, it's "we".

Anyway, we enjoyed it. It IS an odd movie. The lovely jazz score is wildly at odds with the action but that was the point. Paul Kersey was an uber-civilized man who listened to jazz and enjoyed fine dining and had the world on a string. Until he didn't. The long silences (It's been a few years since we saw it) were more like watching a man being reborn, shedding his skin, and morphing into something he would have refused to believe was possible.

The rape scene was horrific. Very unusual for Hollywood, they didn't sex it up or amp down on the trauma for Hope Lange and her daughter.

It's definitely worth watching the original "Death Wish" while you still can. Even better is to watch it with the Bruce Willis remake and see how different choices make a the same story into a very different film.

I’m older and kinda have a thing for Charles Bronson. Not so much for Bruce Willis. Haven’t bothered to see the remake, but might someday after your review.
