Declan, you are his Legacy of Love. Thank you for loving him, for being that Light... I am so sorry it hurts, but I am so glad you are here, to give us a glimpse of who he was...
A beautiful piece. The kind I hope one of my kids may write about me one day.
...a security guard I worked with on a site decades ago said something I've never forgotten. After we had to roust thr third or fourth batch of homeless folks on the night shift, he saw I felt bad for them.
"John," he said [I was in my early 20s then], "every one of us is given a hand to play. These folks? They've folded. You give and get respect based on *how* you play the hand that's dealt you, *not* necessarily what you play at the end of the game."
....sounds like your dad was given a seriously crappy hand, but played it well. He was married, stayed married, had & kept a noble career, and raised kids who have become functioning, productive adults in life who've also gotten married, stayed married, had & kept noble careers....
Kudos to your dad! He played his hand well. Gives guys like me hope.
Thank you.
Such a moving tribute, and an inspiration for other fathers trying to do their best with the hands they were dealt…
May his memory be a blessing.
I'm sorry brother. I know what it is to lose a father.

a Portrait of a Father, loved by his Son.💖
Lovely post. I'll never do one about mine, but there are similarities. Differences, of course. I just hope I am a good a father to mine.
May his memory be eternal and may the Light Perpetual shine on him.

Moving, I'm sorry for your loss, my own father passed away 17years ago and the pain still aches and I still remember and miss him.
Your father sounds like he suffered a lot and deserved better than what he got, but sounds like he made the most of it. Good on him.
