Don't expect to finish unpacking this year. Assume three or more years until you finally get to the last box, open it, and ask, "why did we bring this with us again?"
I'm glad Texas is working well for you. I wish I could get down there more. Hoping to in 2025. There's a lot of good people and cons there, have fun with them!
I look forward to seeing you. One of the reasons we planned to come down was that you were in Dallas. Once the plans were in motion, then we heard you were moving out. :)
I moved from central California to western Kentucky just over two years ago and I can relate. Only in last few months have I been finally able to unpack a decent fraction of my books. We’re still in replacement mode although it is now down to a trickle. Getting rid of all that stuff did make moving easier though.
Moved from Texas to Arkansas about 18 months ago. I just opened the last box this week. And breakage, yeah, breakage. Don't get me started on the 'why did I move this? I didn't like/want/need it for the past decade, wtf did I move it 600 miles so I could donate it here?
...still remember the night I pulled the Uhaul up to our house in Grand Prairie. I was tired, took out the key, and...three lizards ran up the side of the door frame in a weird, twisting little dance. Cute and scary in its own way.
That was 2016; the summer we escaped [not moved, *escaped!*] from Portland , Oregon. Never, ever had cause to look back, no pillars of salt here. :)
I found my local library to be a grateful recipient when I decided to thin my personal library. Got a nice letter thanking me for tripling their SF selection.
Whereabouts in Texas did you decide to sink roots?

Right now, a lot of the unpacked boxes are even more books. Ha!
And we know why we brought them. Because they were my father's books, and we didn't have the time to go through them all before we moved.
When it's presentable, we'll post pictures.

Well, there's plenty of good people in Texas beside me. But I was sorry about that timing, too.

Yeah. Had the timing been a little different, we would have tossed about 20 boxes of books before we left.

Yikes. 18 months? I'm doomed.

Just South of Arlington
I’m in Temple, just south of Waco. Headed up to Arlington next month for a tech conference.
